November 20 Back to Fundamentals. George Cambourakis will take us a step back to recall the basics of growing cacti and succulents, and have a group discussion on some of the most frequently asked questions: What type of soil? How much water? Plastic or clay pots? What plants are best suited for my conditions? What are the cultivation differences between a specialized collection and a varied collection ? How do we treat insects and diseases? George will also have some material samples ( soil, pots, tools, etc. ) on hand as aids in our discussion.
December 18 Holiday party.
January 15 George will present the CSSA Slideshow on caudiciform succulents, authored by the reknowned Gordon Rowley. This will be an interesting and informative program on an unusual group of succulents.
February 19 George will present the CSSA slide show "Succulent Plants of the Cape Province," a tour from Capetown and the Cape of Good Hope to the Great Karoo, Bushmanland, Namaqualand and the Richtersveld. Join us for an enjoyable tour through the hot deserts of South Africa on a cold February evening in New York.
March 18 Our venerable president, Laz Marrero, will give a presentation on "Easy-Flowering Cacti", and will bring some examples of cacti that are not difficult to flower in cultivation. If you have any cacti in flower right now, please bring them in.

Connecticut Cactus & Succulent Association Show and Sale. At Naugatuck Valley Community College, 750 Chase Parkway in Waterbury, CT. (Exit 15 off I-84).
April 15 Dr. Mark Schlesinger will give a digital slide presentation on the many succulents in his collection. This pictorial journey through the world of succulents will show photos, taken in the last five years, of all kinds of wonderful shapes, forms, and flowers. Mark will discuss the various habitats and adaptations succulents must endure, and their cultivation. Come and share Mark's vast experience with all sorts of succulents, as there will be something for everyone during this presentation.
May 20 Our annual repotting workshop. Soil mixes, pots, top dressing, tools and tips will all be discussed, with samples of all these items on hand. Members are encouraged to bring in small pot bound plants to be repotted into slightly larger pots (please bring your own pots). This will be a hands-on presentation where you will repot your own plant. If you have a soil mix that has done well for you, please bring some mix and discuss it with the group. This has always been a popular presentation, so please join us for some good, "dirty" fun.
June 17 Annual plant contest plus wine and cheese party. Bring in your best cactus or succulent plant - one plant per member. Plants will be judged by all members in attendance, and one plant will be chosen for "Best in Show." The prize will be the 2008 issues of the CSSA journal (3 issues). Come peruse the plants and ponder your choice while enjoying wine and cheese. This is our last chance at the plant table until September, so bring in some plants to sell!
