Next meeting: Thursday, February 18, 2010, 6-7:45 PM
(Meeting date has changed to third Thursday of the month.).
George Cambourakis will give us a presentation on “Winterizing our indoor cacti and succulents”.
This presentation was to have been given back in October 2009 but, as you may recall, the
October meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather and confusion over the new meeting
space and date. Although it is now February, our plants still need winter care. And judging by how
our winter is going so far, it may not be warm enough until July. This presentation will cover all
the different heat, light, air, and water requirements that each genus requires during their
dormant period, pest and insect control, and past experiences, both good and bad, during this
sensitive dormant period of the plant's life cycle.
Please bring in some plants or cuttings for the plant sale table.
Welcome to the New York Cactus & Succulent Society. The NYCSS is a group of cactus and succulent enthusiasts dedicated to growing and learning about this fascinating and diverse group of plants.
We meet on the 3rd Thursday of every month except for July and August, in Room 101 on the second floor of the Jan Hus Presbyterian Church, located at 351 E. 74th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues. Meetings cover all aspects of cactus and succulent growing; formats range from talks to slide shows to sessions on repotting techniques. We also make trips to plant shows and sales in and outside of the city and visit members' collections.
Please join us! Guests are always welcome at meetings.
