The New York Cactus and Succulent Society (NYCSS), established in 1956, is an affiliate member club of the Cactus & Succulent Society of America (CSSA). We aim to provide the best knowledge and practices for growing cactus and succulents in the climate of the Northeastern US (and in tight apartment spaces). Our members regularly swap seeds, seedlings or cuttings, making the NYCSS the perfect place to grow your collection sustainably. We also teach a variety of skills that will aid you in your cultivation journey, including how to grow from seed, propagation techniques such as grafting and many more.
Our monthly in-person meetings (488 Madison Ave, Floor 19, NY 10022) feature educational presentations and round-table discussions about these fascinating plants that you won't find anywhere else. Each meeting also has a plant auction featuring the best prices in town...
Learn first hand about home cultivation from tours of our members' diverse growing setups. From apartment windows to greenhouses and everything in between, get inspired by seeing what is possible for our dedicated and passionate NYC growers.
The NYCSS regularly tables at local markets, giving members a chance to share their passion and wares with the community. We feature our members' very own seed-grown plants, handmade pottery, and even soap made from succulent wax! Come hang out with us and help grow the community!
